Head of AI Architecture

In this Head of AI and Agentic Architecture role, you will join the Technology Modernisation and AI Architecture team that’s doubling down on customer obsession. 

Each day, you’ll go above and beyond to:  

  • Lead the enterprise architecture and platform roadmap for AI, GenAI, and agentic systems, aligned to business strategy and customer outcomes. 

  • Define and mature scalable patterns for LLMOps, agent harnesses, evaluation, observability, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop controls. 

  • Own the engineering direction for shared AI platform capabilities, including APIs, SDKs, reusable services, reference implementations, and internal platform products that accelerate adoption across the enterprise. 

  • Oversee the design, build, testing, deployment, and lifecycle management of enterprise AI systems and platform services, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance, resilience, security, and compliance. 

  • Champion Eval-Driven Development, using evaluations as a practical working specification for GenAI and agentic systems in production. 

  • Partner closely with business, technology, data, engineering, risk, security, and external vendors to drive adoption of AI capabilities at scale. 

  • Build pathways for the organisation to gain exposure to cutting-edge AI capabilities, assessing how emerging models, tools, and agentic patterns can be adopted safely and effectively. 

  • Lift service maturity across AI by simplifying delivery, accelerating cycle times, and enabling reuse through strong platform engineering and service design.  

We’re looking for the best and brightest to deliver the best for our customers. You’ll need

  • Senior leadership experience across engineering, architecture, and platform ownership, ideally within banking, payments, or cloud-native software environments. 

  • A strong track record in designing highly distributed systems and delivering solutions through strong collaborations across business, technology, and engineering. 

  • Deep cloud and platform expertise, including AWS, Databricks, and/or Google Cloud, with experience designing and scaling AI workloads in production. 

  • Experience working with leading model ecosystems and services, including platforms from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google. 

  • Proven experience with LLMOps, open-source agent frameworks, and designing, building, and evolving agent harnesses and multi-agent systems at production scale. 

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, data platforms, scalable AI infrastructure, and platform engineering practices. 

  • Experience with secure-by-design and governance-led delivery, including architecture patterns that support policy enforcement, traceability, auditability, and compliance at scale. 

  • The judgement to balance innovation with pragmatism in a regulated, customer-focused environment.
