Your next career opportunity

As Director of The Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI), you will lead Australia’s premier mathematical sciences institute, overseeing national programs, policy advocacy, and stakeholder engagement. Reporting to the AMSI Board, you will ensure AMSI remains a respected thought leader in mathematical sciences, driving excellence in education, research, and industry applications.

Your Responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute AMSI’s vision, ensuring alignment with national priorities in education, research, and industry engagement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with member universities, government bodies, industry partners, and professional societies.
  • Program Oversight: Manage AMSI’s core programs across schools, higher education, and industry internships.
  • Financial and Operational Management: Secure external funding, oversee financial planning, and maintain AMSI’s long-term sustainability.
  • Advocacy and Representation: Represent AMSI at national and international forums, influencing policy and championing the role of mathematical sciences.

You may be a great fit if:

You are an experienced leader in mathematical sciences, with a strong academic and strategic background. You thrive in complex stakeholder environments and have a passion for advancing mathematical education, research, and industry collaboration.

You should have:

  • A PhD or equivalent qualification in mathematical sciences or a related discipline.
  • Proven leadership experience in academia, government, or industry, with the ability to manage multi-stakeholder collaborations.
  • Strong financial management and business planning skills, particularly in securing external funding.
  • Outstanding communication and advocacy skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence policy and sector-wide initiatives.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
