About the Role
The School of BioSciences at the University of Melbourne is excited to offer an opportunity for a Research Fellow specialising in coastal processes, hydrodynamics, and sediment transport numerical modelling. You will join Dr. Rebecca Morris on an ARC-funded project aimed at enhancing hybrid mangrove living shorelines for coastal protection. This role involves work in numerical modelling, field experimentation, and wave flume studies, and offers the chance to collaborate with a diverse team of researchers, postgraduate students, and industry partners.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • In collaboration with Senior Academic staff conduct internationally competitive research, resulting in publications in high impact journals
  • Contribute to and publish academic papers and other scholarly outputs to a high academic standard in accordance with the research expectations of the University of Melbourne
  • Contribute to the preparation, or where appropriate individual preparation of research proposal submissions to internal or external funding bodies as relevant.
  • Active participation in research seminars, and national and international conferences

Who We Are Looking For
You will have a demonstrated passion for research, an aptitude for independent work, and a solid publication record in relevant fields, commensurate with experience. Additionally, you will have a proven track record in numerical modelling of coastal sediment transport and morphodynamic processes.

You will also have:

  • Completion (or near completion) of a PhD in coastal hydrodynamics or engineering or marine science, or equivalent qualification
  • A research track record relevant to understanding and predicting coastal processes, including expertise in numerical modelling of coastal hydrodynamics (using codes such as SWAN, XBeach or SWASH), as evidenced by high-quality research publications in journals, conferences, technical reports, or other scholarly publications.
  • Advanced expertise in analysis of coastal datasets using scientific programming languages such as Python or Matlab.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
