About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated academic to lead the Infectious Disease Dynamics Unit at the University of Melbourne. In this role, you will set the strategic direction, drive high-quality research, and collaborate with global partners to address critical public health challenges. With a focus on infectious disease analytics and pandemic planning, this position offers a unique chance to make a lasting impact while working within a supportive and innovative team environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide research leadership, including the development and implementation of the Unit's research strategy.
  • Foster strong collaborative relationships with internal departments and external partners to support research initiatives.
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities for individual and collaborative research projects.
  • Supervise and mentor research students, promoting their academic development and engagement in professional networks.

Who We Are Looking For
We’re looking for individuals who demonstrate strong leadership, collaboration, and a passion for advancing infectious disease research. Ideal candidates are motivated by the opportunity to shape the future of the field and drive impactful public health outcomes.

You will also have:

  • PhD or equivalent professional qualification
  • Ethical scholar who values diversity and works effectively with individual differences
  • Significant research profile at a national level 
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining research funding
  • Evidence of effective supervision of higher degree and graduate research students

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
