About the Role

Join AURIN, a trailblazing organisation powered by the University of Melbourne and funded by the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). As an Associate Software Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in advancing a national e-Infrastructure project that empowers over 24,000 users with critical data, analytical tools, and innovative platforms. AURIN is transforming how researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders make decisions about Australia’s cities and regions, delivering meaningful impact through cutting-edge technology and collaboration.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Apply the knowledge and concepts gained through training and/or academic study to real-world projects and tasks.
  • Develop their technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and familiarity with tools and methodologies while assisting the more senior members of the Squad in completing their objectives.
  • Seek opportunities for growth and development, such as additional training, certifications, or higher education opportunities and may receive training or participate in professional development programs to enhance their knowledge and capabilities. 

Who We Are Looking For
We  are seeking enthusiastic individuals with a growth mindset, eager to learn and contribute to impactful projects. You bring curiosity, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit, thriving in a team environment while taking initiative to develop your technical skills and solve real-world challenges.

You will also have:

  • Ability to up-skill both independently and by pairing with more senior team members
  • Entry-level experience with web server (e.g., Apache/Nginx, Tomcat) and database technologies (e.g., MongoDB, PostgreSQL).
  • Entry-level experience with a variety of programming languages such as Java, Python, and Javascript.
  • Entry-level experience in the use of modern team-first collaborative software engineering platforms and paradigms (e.g., git-backed CI/CD workflows, agile-based project management, containerised deployment, and development operations)

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
