Educational Technologist Specialist, Accessibility

This position is a professional development opportunity for University of Melbourne staff. Only current Continuing, Fixed-Term, and Casual staff are eligible to apply. About the Role
The Educational Technologist Specialist inAccessibility plays a key role in fostering inclusive digital learning environments by ensuring equitable access to educational technologies and online resources for students and staff with diverse abilities. As part of the Digital Learning Environments (DLE) team, the role provides expert guidance, conducts accessibility reviews, and collaborates with faculty and Teaching and Learning Innovation (TLI) staff to implement best practices in accessible teaching and learning. This position supports the development of accessible digital resources, assessments, and learning experiences to enhance student success and inclusive teaching practices.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the testing and evaluation of the useability, capability, and accessibility of the services and tools in the University’s DLE suite of enterprise educational technologies. 
  • Provide support and advice to TLI management and colleagues on accessibility considerations with the University’s suite of enterprise educational technologies, providing key accessibility advice to the DLE team, teaching and learning support team, and other teams within TLI and Scholarly Services.
  • Conduct the investigation of proposed and candidate services and technologies to be added to the DLE Suite or other areas of Scholarly Services and SASS, and provide recommendations and advice to management and colleagues.
  • Provide direct support and advice to service requests seeking advice on accessibility aspects and learning and teaching guidance to teaching and support staff and to students on escalated requests. 


Who we are looking for
The ideal candidate is a proactive and solutions-focused professional with strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to continuous improvement. They excel in managing competing priorities, collaborating within a team, and building strong stakeholder relationships, while demonstrating exceptional communication, attention to detail, and a customer-centric approach.

You will also have:

  • A relevant undergraduate qualification with relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrate COO Portfolio values by acting in the best interest of your employer, displaying service excellence by taking ownership of the delivery, valuing working collaboratively, connecting with people, and building relationships in your workplace.
  • Demonstrated experience in the field of supporting accessibility, disability services, or inclusive education, preferably within the Australian higher or further education sector.  
  • Demonstrated Subject Matter Expertise and skill in supporting and using assistive technologies, accessibility settings, accessible document creation, and accessible multimedia production.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
