About the Role 

As the Associate Director of Philanthropy for the Cumming Global Centre for Pandemic Therapeutics (CGCPT), you'll play a pivotal role in driving philanthropic efforts for this world-class research centre, housed at The Peter Doherty Centre for Infection and Immunity. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, Infectious Disease & Immunity, you will drive fundraising strategy, cultivate major donors, secure gifts of six and seven figures and foster collaboration with senior academic and professional colleagues. With expertise in high-value philanthropy, you will oversee donor engagement, strategic planning, and potentially build a small team to support CGCPT’s fundraising goals. This role requires exceptional relationship management, strategic insight, and the ability to influence key stakeholders. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

Develop a Strategic Philanthropy Plan: Contribute to the creation of and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy for CGCPT, ensuring alignment with the Centre’s bold vision and $1.5 billion funding goal. 

Manage High-Value Donor Relationships: Cultivate and steward a portfolio of 50-70 major donors capable of six and seven-figure gifts. 

Lead Collaborative Efforts: Work closely with CGCPT, The Doherty Institute, and University leadership to drive philanthropic success. 

Provide Expert Guidance: Offer strategic insights and practice leadership to senior staff on CGCPT Advancement strategy. 

Who we are looking for 

You are an experienced fundraising professional with a proven track record in major gift solicitation, possessing exceptional leadership skills and the ability to develop and implement strategic philanthropic plans in a complex academic or medical research environment. 

You will also have: 

  • Extensive experience in major gifts fundraising. 
  • Possess a strong track record in securing six and seven-figure donations. 
  • Demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with high-level stakeholders. 
  • Have experience in campaign planning and delivery, preferably in higher education or medical research. 
  • Excel at providing leadership and direction to staff and volunteer leaders. 
  • Be skilled in developing and managing budgets and operational plans for large-scale philanthropy projects.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
