Research Finance Officer

About the Role 
The Research Finance Officer will manage a portfolio of funding programs, acting as the primary contact for Chief Investigators (CIs). This includes supporting CIs in financial resource management and compliance with complex funding rules. Additionally, the role involves overseeing all financial aspects of the projects and collaborating with leadership to implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and service delivery. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Delivering finance support to academic clients within the Research Finance function under the University's shared services model. 
  • Acting as a trusted advisor, maintaining relationships with Faculty stakeholders, assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for research operations. 
  • Supporting the development of grant and contract budgets, collaborating on process improvements and system changes with the Supervisor. 
  • Providing accurate management reporting and contribute to Faculty budget forecasts for externally funded research and non-research projects. 
Who we are looking for 
You will have a strong focus on continuous improvement, applying agile methodologies to adapt and respond effectively to evolving environments. You will demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently, while possessing excellent organisational, communication, and financial skills, with a commitment to delivering high-quality service and managing stakeholder relationships effectively. 

You will also have: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in a business-related discipline, coupled with practical experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. 
  • Either hold or be working towards a CPA/CA qualification, demonstrating a strong commitment to professional development. 
  • Experience with Workday, with implementation experience highly desirable.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
