About The Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Safety Coordinator to join our Melbourne Water team based in Bangholme. This role is critical in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our workforce and the communities we serve. You’ll be working across a range of water infrastructure projects, providing expert advice, conducting audits, and driving a strong safety culture. In this field-based role, you'll put into practice some of the more progressive approaches to workplace health and safety, such as conducting Work Insights, Learning Teams, Critical Risk Reviews and together with some tried and tested traditional tools such as safety inspections, hazard rectifications, general risk assessments and critical control verifications.

Working closely with our operational teams and our partners/contractors, you will provide practical safety advice, training and support to help both staff and partners/contractors work safely and with confidence.

Nature of position: Fulltime

Salary: 90K - 96K + super & Company supplied vehicle

Location: Eastern Treatment Plant/ Water South

Reporting line: HSEQ Manager


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert safety advice and support across operational and project teams.
  • Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations
  • Develop and deliver safety training and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Promote continuous improvement in safety performance and culture.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Coaches and guides employees regarding core HSEQ concepts.
  • Provides HSEQ support, advice and direction to internal employees and client representatives as required
  • Promotes a Zero Harm culture that follows the Programmed safety beliefs and empowers all employees to be involved in HSEQ matters, pro-actively take action and protect people and the environment 
  •  Ensures detailed investigations are undertaken on all incidents to identify cause or system failure.


About You 

To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience in Occupational Health & Safety, and a natural ability to bring people together as a leader who possesses first-class stakeholder engagement and customer service skills. Additionally, you will demonstrate and possess the following:  

  • Tertiary qualification in Health Safety and Environment or relevant experience & qualification  
  • Experience in a safety advisory role, ideally within the water, civil, or utilities sector.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and risk management practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to influence and engage teams at all levels.
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to various sites.
