About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and influential Program Manager to lead a team of Project Managers responsible for delivering a portfolio of maintenance capital projects across multiple long‑term customer contracts. This permanent full‑time position plays a critical role in ensuring high‑quality project delivery, strengthening client relationships, and driving performance across our capital works program.

Based in the Melbourne Airport Business Park (VIC), you will oversee a diverse project portfolio typically ranging from $50K to $5M while providing leadership, governance, and strategic direction to ensure successful outcomes. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, clients, subcontractors, and senior leadership to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with contractual and business objectives.

This role represents a significant opportunity to shape Programmed’s project delivery capability, enhance customer experience, and drive consistency and excellence across multiple operating contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of Project Managers, ensuring capability, performance, and consistency across all projects.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of a portfolio of maintenance capital projects across multiple client contracts.
  • Provide strong governance across project lifecycle activities, including scope, budget control, scheduling, risk management, procurement, and reporting.
  • Build and maintain effective client relationships, ensuring project delivery aligns with expectations, safety standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Drive business development opportunities within existing contracts, supporting growth and repeat work.
  • Collaborate with senior management to shape long‑term program strategies, operational improvements, and commercial outcomes.
  • Implement and uphold safety, quality, and environmental standards across all projects.
  • Provide accurate program‑level reporting, including financial performance, forecasting, risks, and delivery milestones.

 

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring a strong background in project and program leadership, ideally within construction, maintenance, infrastructure, or asset‑intensive environments. You excel at leading teams, managing complex workloads, and influencing senior stakeholders across multiple operational settings. Your commercial acumen, communication capability, and passion for driving project excellence will ensure the successful delivery of Programmed’s capital projects.

Additionally, you will demonstrate and possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams of Project Managers or leading multi‑disciplinary project delivery teams.
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse portfolio of projects simultaneously, balancing priorities across multiple clients and contracts.
  • Strong capability in financial management, forecasting, reporting, and risk mitigation.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Ability to drive performance, foster collaboration, and support a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency with project management tools, systems, and reporting processes.
