The Role

As a permanent Arborist based on Rottnest Island, you’ll help deliver safe, high-quality tree management services in a unique environment where public safety, asset protection and environmental considerations are front of mind.

You’ll play a key role in supporting a structured tree management approach, including annual surveying/inspection inputs, maintaining tree records, and contributing to planned and risk-prioritised works.

  • Contribute to island tree management planning through inspection inputs and record keeping, including working with tree tagging/records and systems such as ArborSafe where required.
  • Support a risk-based maintenance approach, prioritising higher-risk trees and completing works in line with agreed priorities and stakeholder requirements.
  • Carry out green waste handling and site clean-up requirements in line with local processes (including removal of pruning waste for chipping/disposal as required).
  • Participate in seasonal readiness activities (for example, targeted pruning ahead of higher fire risk periods where scheduled).
  • Complete documentation such as pre-starts, risk assessments/SWMS where required, and ensure compliance with WHS expectations for tree work activities.

Essential

  • Certificate III in Arboriculture (or equivalent trade qualification).
  • Demonstrated capability performing skilled tree works such as pruning, removals, rigging, climbing, EWP use and chainsaw operations.(As requested)
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and technical judgement.(As requested)
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices and awareness of the major hazards associated with tree work.
  • Current driver’s licence and ability to work across a site-based environment.
  • Highly desirable
  • White Card
  • Chainsaw ticket / demonstrated chainsaw competency.
  • EWP experience and/or High Risk Work Licence (WP).
  • First Aid certification.
  • Understanding of AS4373 Pruning of Amenity Trees (or willingness to work to this standard).
