About North East Link 

The Spark Consortium has been selected to deliver the Central Package of the North East Link Project - Victoria's biggest road project.

The Spark Consortium’s Design and Construction Contractor - which comprises Webuild, CPB Contractors, GS Engineering and Construction and China Construction Oceania - will deliver the twin three-lane tunnels and key interchanges for the project.

The Central Package will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership and provides three-lane twin tunnels that will close the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network from the M80 Ring Road to an upgraded Eastern Freeway, reducing journey times and diverting heavy vehicles away from local roads. Up to 135,000 vehicles will use North East Link every day, reducing congestion in the north-east while maintaining local roads.

About the Opportunity

The Junior Engineer in this role will assist the traffic team in managing traffic management project wide, including general traffic management activities such as implementation of temporary traffic management, including the preparation of documents, plans and permit approvals.  

This role will be accountable for:

  • Under the guidance of Project and Senior Traffic Engineers, prepare and update Worksite Traffic Management Plans (WTMPs).
  • Manage the implementation of traffic guidance schemes, including preparation of drawings, risk assessments and relevant permit approvals.
  • Assist in procurement processes within the traffic team.
  • Complete and/or manage traffic modelling to assist construction activities on the project
  • Support the team in implementation of traffic switches to assist with construction activities on the project
  • Prepare weekly co-ordination notes to support management of disruptions for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage traffic control bookings to assist with construction activities
  • Under the guidance of Lead Drafter, prepare traffic guidance schemes, functional layout plans and swept paths.

Qualifications:

  • Masters or undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering     

Minimum requirements for this role:

  • 1-3 years' experience in Traffic Engineering
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering and temporary traffic management regulations, standards and compliance requirements.
  • Quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and monitoring of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects.
  • Skills in relevant computer software packages; Microsoft Suite etc. are essential.
  • Skills in RapidPlan, SIDRA and MicroStation are highly desirable.
  • Written, verbal and presentation skills e.g. facilitating meetings and presenting to stakeholders.
  • Strong level written and verbal communication
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience in construction related traffic management is preferred, but not mandatory
