The Opportunity
We have an excellent opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Corporate Legal team in a back-end construction role on a permanent, full-time basis. The role is based in North Sydney and will support our team with the delivery of expert legal services on iconic construction projects across Australia.
Your key accountabilities will include:
- Responsible for evaluating and handling claims, as well as collaborating with project teams to prepare or defend against legal claims
- Represent the company in dispute resolution proceedings
- Support project managers in identifying and responding to potential breaches or variations
- Ensure compliance with contract milestones and obligations
- Identify legal risks in ongoing construction projects and advise mitigation strategies
- Handle legal aspects of project closeout, including defect liability, final payments, and retention releases
Our minimum requirements for this role are:
- Bachelor of Law (LLB or equivalent)
- Qualified to practice as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction
- 5-10 years Post Qualification Experience with a strong focus on back-end construction contracts work
- Strong dispute resolution experience
- Expertise in risk assessment and mitigation in construction projects
- Analytical and has attention to detail
