The Project 

UGL and CPB Contractors have been awarded the early works contract to support Powerlink’s delivery of CopperString 2032. This $5 billion iconic project will initially be approximately 840 kilometres of new transmission line running from just south of Townsville to Mount Isa that will connect Queensland’s North West Minerals Province to the national electricity grid. The project scope includes:


•    500 kilovolt (kV) transmission line from just south of Townsville to Hughenden
•    330kV transmission line from Hughenden to Cloncurry
•    220kV transmission line from Cloncurry to Mount Isa
•    up to six new substation sites.


This exciting project will commence construction in 2024 and we are currently looking for an experience Traffic Engineer to join the team.

 

Working with guidance from the Traffic Manager, the role is responsible for providing technical guidance and expertise in the development and approval of traffic management plans, traffic guidance schemes and implementation/operation of these schemes on site.

 
What will a day in this role look like:

  • Design and develop comprehensive Construction Traffic Management Plans (CTMP) in compliance with local and national guidelines (e.g., QGTTM, AGTTM).
  • Coordinate with planning and delivery teams to prepare for staging for the various zones in the project in a complex and fast-moving environment.
  • Work closely with government authorities (e.g., TMR), local councils, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure traffic management solutions meet regulatory requirements and project needs.
  • Conduct detailed traffic impact assessments, identify potential challenges, and propose mitigation strategies to ensure minimal impact on surrounding road networks.
  • Oversee the performance of the traffic management contractors, supervisors, and other members of the traffic management team.
  • Ensure all traffic management activities comply with relevant laws, standards, and permits. Prepare and submit regular reports on traffic conditions, safety incidents, and TMP performance.

What are we looking for you to bring to the team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Traffic management design (TMD) open qualification.
  • 3+ years of experience in traffic management, preferably on road infrastructure or large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant national and Queensland specific traffic management guidelines and specifications (e.g., AGTTM, QGTTM, AS, etc) and local road authority regulations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven experience in developing traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes, gaining approvals, and implementing them on site on a major road project.
