The Opportunity
We have an excellent opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Corporate Legal team in a front-end construction role on a permanent, full-time basis. The role will be based in North Sydney and will support our team with the delivery of expert legal services on iconic construction projects across Australia.
Your key accountabilities will include:
- Providing commercially relevant advice to our bid teams in the formation, review and closing of contracts for large scale projects.
- Assisting in contract tender phase with the identification and reporting of contractual risks in relation to projects and the development of strategies to address those risks (including where appropriate, drafting tender qualifications and proposed contract amendments that address the risks).
- Preparing suites of downstream contract templates for project staff to use in appointing consultants, trades contractors, suppliers and other subcontractors, these to reflect upstream obligations.
- Preparing and advising on various other types of contracts used in the pursuit and delivery of projects, including tender services agreements, tender teaming agreements, joint venture agreements, leases, confidentiality agreements, novation deeds and security documents such as parent guarantees, bank guarantees.
- Participating in the negotiation of contracts with clients, subcontractors, joint venture partners and others.
- Providing advice and assistance in relation to contractual issues that arise on projects during delivery.
Our Requirements
- 3 - 7 years PQE with a strong focus on front end construction contracts work.
- Qualified to practice as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction - holding a current practising certificate
- Good understanding of the legal aspects of construction projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
