The Spark Consortium has been selected for the Central Package of the North East Link Project - Victoria's biggest road project.
The Spark Consortium’s Design and Construction Contractor - which comprises Webuild, CPB Contractors, GS Engineering and Construction and China Construction Oceania - will deliver the twin three-lane tunnels and key interchanges for the project.
The Central Package will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership and provides three-lane twin tunnels that will close the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network from the M80 Ring Road to an upgraded Eastern Freeway, reducing journey times and diverting heavy vehicles away from local roads. Up to 135,000 vehicles will use North East Link every day, reducing congestion in the north-east while maintaining local roads.
Please be advised that this project is a large scale T1 project with potential for 24/7 shift work, whilst we will aim for weekend work to be split fairly between employees there may be role requirements on occasion for evening shift work.
About the Opportunity
As a Project Engineer – Buildings Steel & Façade, you will play a key role in supporting the project management team. You will coordinate on-site engineering functions for the building scope to help achieve time and budget objectives, while ensuring construction activities are carried out safely and efficiently.
Position Specific Responsibilities include:
- Support the management of Structural Steel and Façade Design and Construct Contractors.
- Assist with value engineering to deliver design outcomes for steel and façade that meet project safety, program, and cost targets.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to help resolve technical issues and achieve project goals.
- Review construction and work packages, including ITPs and checklists.
- Monitor progress and assist in preparing project reports for the wider team, client, and building surveyor.
- Contribute to planning and implementing Spark safety standards on site.
Key Accountabilities include:
- Gather and review design parameters for incorporation into detailed designs and construction specifications.
- Monitor quality and quantities of materials and equipment, check work drawings and specifications against site conditions, and raise modifications where required.
- Support and coordinate construction activities for buildings within the project, monitoring progress and assisting with issue resolution.
- Maintain accurate records of project activities, including design changes, progress updates, and costs.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and authorities to support successful project delivery.
- Assist in ensuring project engineering activities are completed on time and within budget.
- Maintain awareness of HSEQ risks and actively contribute to safe work practices.
- Support compliance with local building codes, permits, and approvals.
- Ensure adherence to relevant legal, regulatory, and company requirements.
Minimum requirements for this role are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- 3–5 years of experience in Project Engineering within the building construction industry.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coordinate across multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a strong commitment to safety.
