Two CIMIC Group companies, UGL and CPB Contractors have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the 130km western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project.

HumeLink is a new 500kV transmission project which will connect Wagga Wagga, Maragle and Bannaby in regional NSW that will significantly increase the capacity of the electricity network in Australia’s eastern states. HumeLink is one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure projects, with about 365kms of proposed new transmission lines and a range of other new and upgraded infrastructure.

The HumeLink West scope of works, worth $1.4bn, includes delivery of new 500kV double circuit transmission lines spanning ~140kms from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new Substation at Gugaa, the Interface Point with HumeLink East near Gundagai and a new substation at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future connection to Snowy 2.0.

Join HumeLink West, a landmark transmission project powering NSW’s energy transition. As a Senior Surveyor, your role is to lead and manage surveying activities across major construction works valued up to $100M. In this role, you will oversee a team of Surveyors, Junior Surveyors and Survey Assistants, ensuring precise, efficient and timely delivery of all survey-related project requirements.

Primary Purpose of the Position

As the Senior Surveyor you will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of surveying initiatives for the HumeLink West project.  Your responsibilities will include:

  • Apply surveying principles to meet the Scope of Works and Technical Criteria.
  • Resolve survey-related issues using sound professional judgement.
  • Use GNSS rovers and Robotic Total Stations for data collection.
  • Perform topographical, volumetric, as-built surveys and engineering set-outs for construction.
  • Interpret project documents, generate survey reports and CAD drawings, and 3D models using software like 12D and Trimble Business Centre
  • Perform data gathering, statistical analysis and identify trends for reporting and improvement.
  • Review, monitor, and report on performance, compliance, defects and non-conformances.
  • Interpret project documents, prepare technical reports and ensure adherence to compliance documentation.
  • Support stakeholders by communicating technical information clearly and effectively.

 

What are we looking for you to bring to the team:

  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant surveying experience in construction or similar industry.
  • Proven experience leading teams on projects up to $100M.
  • Strong relationship-building, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Effective decision-making, problem solving and conflict management capabilities.
  • Excellent time management, planning and sequencing of work.
  • Financial acumen to support sound decision-making.
  • Expertise in Engineering Surveying disciplines
  • Machine control experience (Topcon, Leica, Trimble).
  • Skilled in coaching, mentoring and performance management.
  • Proficient with 12D Model and 12D Synergy
  • Experience with Trimble Robotic Total Stations and GNSS equipment
  • Knowledge of cultural competence and managing diverse workforces.
  • CAD, spreadsheets, word processing and email systems.
  • Understanding of auditing, environmental inspections, compliance and risk management procedures.

     

Where applicable, evidence of tertiary qualifications and proof of right to work will be required prior to successful appointment.
