Traffic Engineer / Traffic Manager – Major Water Infrastructure Project

We are seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer to join our project delivery team on a major water pipeline construction project in Queensland.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a significant piece of critical infrastructure, supporting the planning, approval, implementation and monitoring of traffic management requirements across multiple active construction work fronts. Due to the linear nature of the project, work locations will be dynamic and will require close coordination with construction teams, traffic management providers, road authorities, stakeholders and local communities.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient and compliant traffic management solutions that support project delivery while minimising impacts to road users, residents and businesses.

About the Role

Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating traffic management activities across the project and ensuring all traffic control arrangements are planned, approved, implemented and monitored in accordance with project and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and coordinating traffic management requirements for multiple construction work fronts.
  • Reviewing and managing Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS), Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) and Traffic Control Permits.
  • Liaising with traffic management subcontractors to ensure safe and compliant implementation of traffic control measures.
  • Coordinating approvals and permits with local councils, road authorities and relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitoring construction activities to ensure compliance with approved traffic management arrangements.
  • Supporting project programming by identifying and managing traffic-related constraints and opportunities.
  • Managing stakeholder communications relating to traffic impacts, road closures and changed traffic conditions.
  • Conducting site inspections, audits and reviews of traffic control arrangements.
  • Assisting with incident investigations and implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Maintaining project records, approvals, reports and compliance documentation.
  • Contributing to project planning, risk management, safety and environmental objectives.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Experience managing traffic control and traffic management requirements on civil construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of Queensland traffic management requirements, guidelines and approval processes.
  • Experience coordinating traffic management subcontractors and field operations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, road authorities and stakeholders.
  • Strong planning, organisational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities across multiple active work fronts.
  • Sound understanding of construction methodologies and project delivery requirements.
  • Commitment to safety, quality and environmental compliance.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in civil construction, infrastructure delivery or traffic management coordination roles.
  • Experience delivering traffic management solutions within live traffic environments.
  • Current driver's licence.

Desirable:

  • Traffic engineering qualifications or postgraduate studies in traffic and transport engineering.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Queensland (RPEQ).
  • Experience working on water, utilities, pipeline, transport or linear infrastructure projects.
  • Traffic Management Designer accreditation or equivalent.
  • Experience with TMR, local government and utility authority approval processes.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on a major Queensland infrastructure project.
  • Diverse and challenging work across multiple construction fronts.
  • Supportive project team environment.
  • Competitive remuneration package.
  • Long-term career development opportunities within a growing organisation.

If you are a proactive and solutions-focused engineer with experience managing traffic requirements in complex construction environments, we would like to hear from you.
