About North East Link 

The Spark Consortium has been selected to deliver the Central Package of the North East Link Project - Victoria's biggest road project.

The Spark Consortium’s Design and Construction Contractor - which comprises Webuild, CPB Contractors, GS Engineering and Construction and China Construction Oceania - will deliver the twin three-lane tunnels and key interchanges for the project.

The Central Package will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership and provides three-lane twin tunnels that will close the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network from the M80 Ring Road to an upgraded Eastern Freeway, reducing journey times and diverting heavy vehicles away from local roads. Up to 135,000 vehicles will use North East Link every day, reducing congestion in the north-east while maintaining local roads.

About the Opportunity

This role will be responsible for leading the integration of the engineering functions that support the MEI Delivery team’s successful delivery of the Northern / Southern MEI construction activities in compliance with statutory, contractual and design requirements.

This role will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Administering the co-ordinated MEI design through:
    • Clarifying site queries,
    • Resolving site issues using engineering first principles, and
    • Mobilising the Consultant(s) for complex issues impacting design
  • Leading the resolution of inter-discipline interface design issues
  • Actively participate in recurring design and construction coordination meetings following through on actions
  • Conducting design and shop drawing reviews
  • As required, prepare plans, layouts and designs (predominantly minor works with no impact to head end infrastructure) with supporting calculations for specifications.
  • Supplementary site inspections verifying the integrity of services as-built drawings
  • Review (and management) of cost plans against budget
  • Provide input to consultant Variations / Claims
  • Manage Stakeholder and Client expectations and communicate effectively with the project team
  • Coordination and Presentation of key issues for resolution to wider audiences
  • Proactive engagement with Consultant/s to resolve technical issues to achieve the delivery program.
  • Generates momentum to improve time, cost, margin and quality outcomes of project.
  • Supply drafting and estimating staff with information to assist in the production of detailed drawings, the development of tools, quantities, materials list and cost estimates as required. 
  • Assist in the preparation of technical detail for inquiries, quotations, contract documentation, technical literature or in the analysis of failures following customer complaints.
  • Understand compliance and reporting procedures and processes and demonstrate leadership in the communication of requirements to wider team.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to staff with the ability to inspire and motivate others.

 

Qualifications:

  • Masters or Undergraduate Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Fire Safety Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Victoria (RPEV) and Chartered Engineer (CPEng)

 

Minimum requirements for this role:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in leading multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Proficient in the relevant industry codes, standards and regulations.
  • Computer skills (word processing, email), company management system requirements.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental legislation.
  • Knowledge of project management structure, plans, specifications, standards, and implications for project accountabilities.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Client focused. 
  • Present work with high level of accuracy.
