Project Engineer – Piling Works & OHTL Construction | HumeLink West

UGL and CPB Contractors, members of the CIMIC Group, have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the western section of the HumeLink high voltage transmission project.

HumeLink is a new 500kV transmission project connecting Wagga Wagga, Maragle, and Bannaby, significantly increasing the capacity and reliability of Australia's eastern electricity network. As one of Australia's largest energy infrastructure projects, HumeLink will deliver approximately 365km of new transmission lines and associated infrastructure critical to the nation's energy future.

The HumeLink West scope of works, valued at $1.4 billion, includes the delivery of new 500kV double-circuit transmission lines spanning approximately 140km from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new substation at Gugaa, the interface point with HumeLink East near Gundagai, and a new substation at Maragle for future connection to Snowy 2.0.

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer – Piling Works & OHTL Construction to join the HumeLink West team and play a key role in delivering critical foundation, piling, and overhead transmission line construction packages across this landmark energy project.

This site-based role will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing foundation, piling, and transmission line construction activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Accountabilities

As the Project Engineer – Piling Works & OHTL Construction, you will support the successful delivery of foundation and transmission line construction activities across the project, including:

  • Planning and coordinating piling, bored pier, drilled shaft, foundation, and OHTL construction activities in accordance with project requirements.
  • Managing subcontractors and specialist piling and transmission line contractors to ensure works are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Providing technical engineering support through the review and interpretation of geotechnical reports, structural drawings, foundation designs, IFC drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Monitoring daily production, piling progress, concrete pours, tower foundation works, structure erection, conductor stringing activities, testing requirements, and quality controls.
  • Preparing and maintaining construction programs, look-ahead schedules, work packs, ITPs, SWMS reviews, and inspection records.
  • Assisting with procurement and coordination of materials, plant, equipment, and specialist subcontractors required for piling and OHTL works.
  • Managing site documentation including RFIs, NCRs, design queries, engineering records, and construction reports.
  • Contributing to cost tracking, forecasting, productivity reporting, and project performance reviews.
  • Ensuring compliance with project safety, environmental, and quality management systems.
  • Building strong working relationships with project teams, clients, consultants, landowners, and subcontractors.
  • Supporting the coordination of tower foundation construction, tower erection, conductor installation, and transmission line commissioning activities.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience as a Project Engineer or Site Engineer delivering piling works, foundations, overhead transmission lines, transmission infrastructure, renewable energy, mining, rail, or major civil construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of piling methodologies including bored piles, CFA piles, driven piles, rock socketing, and reinforced concrete foundation construction.
  • Experience in OHTL construction activities including transmission tower foundations, tower erection, conductor stringing, and associated civil works.
  • Ability to interpret geotechnical, civil, structural, and transmission design documentation.
  • Experience managing specialist subcontractors and coordinating construction activities in a live project environment.
  • Sound knowledge of construction sequencing, temporary works, quality assurance, and safety management.
  • Strong commercial awareness including progress tracking, cost control, forecasting, and subcontractor management.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working on transmission, energy, renewable, utility, or major infrastructure projects will be highly regarded.

Where applicable, evidence of tertiary qualifications and proof of right to work will be required prior to appointment.
