About The Role

As a leading player in the mining industry, we understand the critical importance of risk management in ensuring the safety, sustainability, and success of our operations. The Senior Risk Management Specialist will play a pivotal role in identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring risks across our diverse portfolio of projects and operations. This includes leading the design and procurement of software for a new risk management system, continuous improvement of existing systems, providing functional direction, and influencing key business decisions.

Based in the Brisbane head office and reporting directly to the Group Manager of Risk, Governance & Assurance, you will assist the team to:

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including operations, engineering, safety, environmental, legal, and finance to integrate risk management principles into all aspects of our business processes.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies and adjust them as necessary in response to changing circumstances, emerging risks, or lessons learned from incidents.
  • Develop and deliver risk workshops and training programs to enhance risk awareness and foster a proactive risk management culture among employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends in risk management, and incorporate relevant insights into our risk management framework.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management and the Board to communicate key risk exposures, mitigation efforts, and risk management performance metrics.

About You

Join our team if you hold a degree in risk management, engineering, business administration, finance, or a related field, and boast a proven track record of at least 5 years in risk management, particularly within the mining, natural resources, or heavy industry domains. We seek individuals equipped with comprehensive knowledge of risk management principles, methodologies, tools, and techniques, coupled with a keen grasp of regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Your role will demand adeptness in analysing intricate data, evaluating risk probabilities and impacts, and devising pragmatic risk mitigation strategies. Moreover, exceptional communication, interpersonal finesse, and stakeholder engagement are paramount, as you'll be interfacing across all organisational echelons and functional spheres. Leadership prowess is indispensable, evidenced by your ability to steer cross-functional teams, foster consensus, and spearhead transformative initiatives.

With an innate proclivity for proactive problem-solving and a commitment to continual growth, you'll thrive in our dynamic, deadline-driven environment. Proficiency in various software applications, including Enablon Synergy, risk assessment tools, project management software, and the Microsoft Office suite, is a requisite. If you possess these attributes and relish the challenge of independently managing diverse priorities, we invite you to embark on this rewarding journey with us.

Join us at Thiess and be part of a collaborative team dedicated to excellence in risk management and sustainable mining practices.

Please note that this role will be a permanent position and applications will close at midnight on 16 May 2024.
