The Opportunity 

We are seeking an experienced Shot Firer to join the Thiess Drill & Blast Crew for our Lake Vermont Project just 19km north of Dysart. With competitive pay, industry-leading benefits, and long-term job security.

We’re seeking an experienced Shot Firer to join our team and play a key role in safe and efficient blasting operations. In this role, you’ll be responsible for carrying out surface shot firing activities in line with approved blast plans and strict safety regulations. You’ll manage the delivery, storage, and handling of explosives with precision, ensuring accurate inventory control at all times.

Leading a team of blast crew members, you’ll oversee loading operations, tie-ins, and blast initiation, while also coordinating post-blast assessments to guarantee safe re-entry to the area. Your ability to identify and respond to potential risks will be critical to maintaining our high safety standards.

About The Role 

Working a 7/7 dayshift roster with requirement for night shift as required and reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor, your duties will include:

  • Magazine management and on-site transport of explosives
  • Managing the loading, tying, and firing of blasts following blast designs
  • Daily reconciliation and reporting of explosives usage
  • Assist with training and mentoring of blast crew members
  • Identifying, communicating and management of hazards within the work area

To be successful in this role you will bring: 

  • A Valid QLD Shotfirer Licence
  • Drivers’ Licence
  • Current Standard 11
  • Experience using electronic initiation systems
  • Demonstrated compliance with safety and a good knowledge of explosive regulations
  • Operational experience in Mobile Processing Units is preferred
  • Ability to operate a loader, bobcat and stemming truck is desirable
