You will also play a vital role in identifying and implementing controls to enhance payroll accounting and compliance processes. This is your chance to join a dynamic team of professionals and make a significant impact within a global organisation.

Key Responsibilities may include

  • Manage post pay run costing of wages and journal entries, and annual reviews of oncosts, including liaising with the Payroll System teams to ensure correct coding configuration to accounting requirements.
  • Review payroll general ledger reconciliation and associated journal entries, and payroll cash forecasting, liaising with the finance team to manage reporting obligations.
  • Monitor payroll clearing accounts and work with the payroll team to ensure correct treatment of payments.
  • Analyse and reconcile complex payroll data and accounts to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Oversee creditor payments, payroll tax, superannuation, garnishees, novated leases and other compliance obligations, and review for approval.
  • Monitor payroll compliance with relevant legislation, including audits and controls to mitigate risks.
  • Lead audits such as Coal LSL audits, financial compliance reviews, and year-end declarations.
  • Develop and implement payroll accounting and compliance procedures, work instructions, and process improvements.
  • Work closely with stakeholders, including the Payroll, Finance, IT, and external vendor teams, to address compliance and process needs.
  • Provide support for payroll-related reconciliations, audits, and reporting to both internal and external teams.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related qualifications (or equivalent experience) with at least 5 years of payroll accounting and compliance experience, preferably in managing complex payroll issues.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of payroll-related legislation and accounting practices such as payroll tax, superannuation, Coal LSL, general ledger accounts and journal entries; proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Intermediate or higher) with familiarity in systems like JDE, Blackline, Oracle HRIS, Preceda, or Dayforce is desirable.
  • Core Competencies: Advanced analytical abilities, strong problem-solving skills, and high attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, enabling them to collaborate effectively across teams and meet deadlines. A proactive mindset focused on driving improvements and delivering results is crucial, combined with the ability to handle complex issues professionally and drive effective resolutions.
