About the role

We are seeking an experienced AHS Mine Controller to join our team at our Olive Downs Complex project in the Bowen Basin. Olive Downs Complex is a greenfield project located 40 kilometres South-east of Moranbah which commenced mining operations mid-2023.

Thiess has been awarded a five-year contract to deliver full service mining operations, including mine planning overburden removal, drill and blast, load and haul (Autonomous), water management and rehabilitation as well as construction of the mine infrastructure.

Working a 7/7 dayshift / nightshift roster and reporting to the Mine Control Supervisor, you will assist with the coordinating of the Mine controller operations using MineStar, some duties may include:

• Manage a fleet of Autonomous Haul Trucks (AHT) and deliver on key dispatching metrics ensuring maximum utilisation of machines on a 24hr plan from the control room.
• Collaborate with site and project teams and work with key internal and external stakeholders to meet the project’s targets in safety, environment, and production.
• Communicate effectively with Mining Supervisors/Coordinators and key personnel.
• Provide effective support to mine personnel where required.
• Identify opportunities for process optimisation, efficiency improvements and cost reductions.
• Utilise data and analytics to monitor key performance indicators relating to fleet management.
• Ensure compliance to safety procedures and regulations, promoting a culture of safety within the mine.

About you

As the successful applicant, you’ll be a high-achieving team-focused individual who enjoys delivering results in a dynamic environment. Your exceptional relationship-building skills coupled with your ability to engage and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders will also ensure your success in this role. 

• Previous experience as an Autonomous Haulage Controller or in a related fleet management role is highly regarded.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret operational data make fast, effective decisions
• Engineering, technical, or analytical background (Mining, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering, or related fields highly regarded)
• Advanced computer literacy with data analysis, reporting and system optimisation tools (Power BI, Excel, SQL or similar)
• Multi tasking and situational awareness skills, if you’ve thrived in environments where you monitor multiple screens and make rapid decisions (such as competitive gaming, air traffic-style operations, or logistics control), you’ll excel here.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills, with high attention to detail
• Strong communication, collaboration, and influencing skills across diverse teams
• Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and adapt to changing circumstances
• HME (Heavy Mobile Equipment) exposure or knowledge of mining operations
• Valid C Class Drivers licence
