About the role:

Thiess is seeking a Principal Mining Estimator to join our team based out of our West Perth office. This pivotal role is responsible for delivering accurate and innovative estimating and costing services to support the tendering of new mining projects. You will also apply these practices to existing operations to drive continuous improvement, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen the financial performance of our business.

 

Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Deliver accurate, detailed, and timely estimates for new mining project tenders.
  • Apply estimating and costing expertise to current operations to improve financial and operational performance.
  • Ability to analyse each mining operation as a system and determine the critical value drivers and devise a strategy which maximises return from both a Thiess and a Client (where possible) perspective.  Ability to apply this analysis across the business concurrently.
  • Preparation of data for reviews of all critical mine engineering inputs and reconcile actual vs planned performance.
  • Participation in development of mine design and scheduling process documents and seek feedback/review through mine planning COP.
  • Participation in regular meetings to address ongoing mine planning methodologies, software tools and strategies
  • Coach and mentor junior mine estimators

About You

  • Tertiary qualified in a relevant technical discipline (e.g. Mining or Civil Engineering)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior level mine estimating role
  • Have a strategic and innovative approach to problem solving and ability to define critical value drivers (cost and revenue) in an operation
  • Previous cost estimating and contract management experience
  • Well-developed analytical, verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines and shifting priorities
  • Strong estimating software experience with experience in CATS highly regarded
  • Ability to undertake regular visits to projects and engagement with project technical staff
