The opportunity

Thiess is seeking an experienced CHPP Process Superintendent to join our team at the Lake Vermont Coal Project. In this pivotal role, you will lead and coordinate coal handling and preparation plant operations to maximise product coal recovery and ensure production, quality, and train loading targets are achieved—all while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive safe and efficient CHPP operations in line with statutory and environmental requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and empower Process Engineers, Operations Supervisors, and Coal Laboratory personnel.
  • Optimise plant performance through continuous improvement initiatives and process control.
  • Oversee coal sampling, quality assurance, and compliance with Australian standards.
  • Manage operational forecasting, reporting, and cost control to meet production and budget targets.
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, client representatives, and external stakeholders.

About You:
To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, Process, or Metallurgical Engineering (or similar).
  • Significant experience in CHPP operations within a mining environment.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach and develop teams.
  • Strong technical knowledge of coal processing and plant optimisation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel essential) and familiarity with relevant legislation.
  • Standard 11 and Supervisor certification (or ability to obtain).
