About the role:

Thiess is seeking an Asset Estimating Lead to join our team based out of our West Perth office. This pivotal role is responsible accurate and innovative estimating and costing services for the tendering of new mining projects and similarly apply these processes to current projects in order to improve the operational and financial effectiveness of the Thiess Australia business.  

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Carry out strategy reviews where required to ensure that all Thiess assets are maintained to achieve operational MTBF metrics while not compromising safety or budgets.
  • Apply estimating and costing expertise to current operations to improve financial and operational performance.
  • Develop accurate tenders that are practically orientated with due consideration of the scope of works.
  • Drive best practice for Thiess and MACA Australian Asset Operations ensuring the consistent application of Thiess maintenance Processes, Procedures and Systems.
  • Drives delivery of work tasks to ensure team and business goals are achieved
  • Analysis of actual direct costs and overheads to aid in developing tender costs.
  • Analysis site production performance to determine parameters for use in budgets and tenders.
  • Work with mine planning engineers to ensure that mine plan is optimised for the tender. 

About You

  • Trade qualification / Engineering degree or equivalent qualifications.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in maintenance operations with large mining equipment.
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in estimating maintenance activities for large mining equipment.
  • Solid understanding of mining principles, design concepts and operations.
  • Solid understanding of usage and limitations of relevant mine planning, design and scheduling software.
  • High proficiency in application of estimating principles and systems including CATS.
  • An ability to link the technical outcomes to financial results.
  • Must have sound knowledge of mine operation regulatory and legislative requirements.
