What you’ll do 

As the Senior Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for the timely and accurate processing of fortnightly wages payrolls, ensuring compliance with Awards, Enterprise Agreements and Australian legislative requirements. 

Operating as a Payroll Subject Matter Expert (SME), you’ll handle complex payroll queries, mentor team members, identify process improvement opportunities, and support key payroll and system transformation initiatives. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Deliver accurate and timely fortnightly wages payroll, including off-cycle payments, payroll reporting, and banking packs 

  • Resolve complex payroll queries and maintain accurate employee payroll records in line with HR/IR requirements 

  • Act as a Payroll SME and Super User for Oracle, Preceda and future payroll systems 

  • Ensure compliance with Australian payroll legislation, Awards, Enterprise Agreements and employment contracts 

  • Develop and maintain payroll process documentation, and lead onboarding, training and coaching of payroll team members 

  • Collaborate with HR, Finance and wider business stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and effective delivery outcomes 

What You’ll Need to Succeed 

You’re an experienced payroll professional with a strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and a passion for accuracy, improvement and teamwork. 

You will bring: 

  • 2–5 years’ experience in payroll processing (mining industry experience highly regarded) 

  • Strong experience interpreting Awards and Enterprise Agreements 

  • Proven ability to manage complex payroll matters with confidence 

  • Experience with HR & payroll systems such as Oracle HRIS, Preceda or Dayforce (desirable) 

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Exceptional attention to detail and numerical accuracy 

  • Strong time management and multitasking capability 

  • A calm, professional approach under pressure 

  • A proactive, customer-focused mindset 

Tertiary qualifications in HR or a related discipline are desirable.
