The Opportunity 

We’re seeking an experienced Shotfirer to join the Thiess Drill & Blast Crew at our Olive Downs Complex in the Bowen Basin, located 40 kilometres south‑east of Moranbah. The Olive Downs Complex began mining operations in mid‑2023 and Thiess is delivering a five‑year full‑service mining contract that includes mine planning, overburden removal, drill and blast, autonomous load and haul, water management, rehabilitation, and mine infrastructure development.

About The Role 

Working a 7/7 day‑shift roster, with occasional night‑shift requirements (paid at the applicable night‑shift rate), and reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:

• Magazine management and on-site transport of explosives
• Managing the loading, tying, and firing of blasts following blast designs
• Daily reconciliation and reporting of explosives usage
• Assist with training and mentoring of blast crew members
• Identifying, communicating and management of hazards within the work area

To be successful in this role you will bring: 

• A Valid QLD Shotfirer Licence and Drivers’ Licence
• Current Standard 11
• Experience using electronic initiation systems
• Demonstrated compliance with safety and a good knowledge of explosive regulations
• Operational experience in Mobile Processing Units is preferred
• Ability to operate a loader, bobcat and stemming truck is desirable
