The opportunity:

This is your chance to step into a high‑impact HR leadership role, supporting the safe, sustainable and high‑performance delivery of our Australia East operations. As the HR Manager – Functions & Projects, you’ll partner closely with senior leaders and the Head of People & Communications – Australia East to drive a fit‑for‑purpose people strategy, strengthen organisational capability, and deliver consistent, high‑quality HR outcomes across multiple sites and functions.

You’ll be at the forefront of shaping culture, uplifting leadership capability, and ensuring we have the workforce, systems and processes to support commercial growth. No two days will be the same—strategic workforce planning, people insights for commercial bids, continuous improvement, operational support, and coaching leaders will all be part of your rhythm. If you thrive in a complex, fast‑paced environment where influence matters and your work truly makes a difference, this role is built for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • In this role, you’ll provide strategic and operational HR leadership across the Australia East portfolio by building strong relationships with leaders, champion continuous improvement, and ensuring HR systems and processes operate to a high standard while contributing to culture, engagement and employee experience initiatives.
  • Key focus areas include:
  • Delivering consistent people programs, workforce planning support and people insights for bids, tenders and strategic projects.
  • Building trusted partnerships with operational and functional leaders while representing the People function across business forums and cross‑functional initiatives.
  • Leading HR systems compliance, process optimisation and identifying improvement opportunities through data and insights.
  • Driving culture, engagement and leadership capability initiatives, supported by meaningful analysis of engagement trends and feedback.

About you:

You’re a confident, credible HR leader who brings sound judgement, commercial thinking and a solutions‑focused mindset. You thrive in operational environments, enjoy navigating complexity, and know how to influence, coach and collaborate to deliver outstanding results.

Here’s what you’ll bring:

  • 7–10+ years’ HR experience, including time in senior HRBP/HR Manager roles.
  • Experience supporting multi‑site, operational or industrial environments—ideally mining, heavy industry, engineering or contracting.
  • Strong capability across workforce planning, OD, talent, leadership development and strategic HR delivery.
  • Strong HR systems knowledge, data literacy and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Tertiary qualifications in HR, IR, Business, Psychology or related disciplines; postgrad studies highly regarded.
  • A collaborative style, strong communication skills and a genuine passion for building culture, capability and performance.

What’s on offer:

At Thiess, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive — safely, confidently and with opportunities to grow.

  • Competitive salary package.
  • Ongoing training & development opportunities.
  • A strong safety-first culture across all operations, built on care, respect and accountability.
  • Range of corporate discounts including health insurance (Medibank), travel & retail products.
