About the Opportunity

We are seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced Project Managers and SSEs who can provide strong, steady leadership across complex mining environments.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring safe production, commercial discipline and consistent delivery in line with Thiess’ standards and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you may:

  • Provide ethical, innovative and forward‑thinking leadership across multiple Bowen Basin sites, supporting project delivery that aligns with Thiess’ strategic objectives.
  • Drive safe, compliant and high‑performance outcomes, ensuring operational targets are achieved in accordance with regulatory requirements and the Thiess Management System.
  • Lead production and maintenance activities across various sites, delivering budgeted waste and coal volumes in line with mine plans, optimising cost, recovery, dilution and output.
  • Oversee efficient resource allocation and coordinated scheduling across operations.

This position may involve travel across multiple locations on a 9‑day fortnight, with FIFO, DIDO or residential arrangements available for the right candidate.

About You

You are an experienced onsite Project Manager or SSE who is passionate about people, safety and performance. You thrive on navigating complex challenges and achieving strong commercial results while maintaining an inclusive and collaborative leadership style.

You bring:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering, with extensive experience in large‑scale open‑cut or underground mining operations.
  • A current QLD SSE Notice and exceptional communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Significant open‑cut operational experience at a management level, with a strong client‑focused approach.
  • Sound knowledge of the QLD Coal Mining Safety and Health Act, Mining Regulations and OH&S legislation.
  • Risk Management and Incident Investigation accreditation.
  • A demonstrated ability to streamline procedures, audit effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  • Experience with, or the ability to support, the negotiation and application of Enterprise Agreements, including coaching leadership teams in their effective implementation.
