About the role

As the Technical Services Manager at Lake Vermont, you will lead the Mining Engineering, Geology, Surveying, and Rehabilitation functions to drive safe, efficient, and commercially effective mine development. You’ll ensure all designs, planning, measurements, geological modelling, surveys, recording, and reporting activities support operational excellence and meet client expectations. This position also oversees scheduling for the Thiess fleet to deliver against contractual obligations and performance targets.

Reporting to the Project Manager, working a 5/2/4/3 roster in this role, you will:

  • Facilitate regular reviews of all critical mine planning inputs—including geological data, survey updates, and rehabilitation considerations—and reconcile actual vs. planned performance.
  • Lead the development of mine designs, weekly plans, schedules, and process documents, ensuring alignment across engineering, geology, surveying, and rehabilitation teams.
  • Actively participate in client and internal meetings to refine mine planning methodologies, geological interpretations, survey accuracy, and rehab strategies.
  • Provide strong leadership engagement and collaborate closely with technical services personnel, mentoring team members across engineering, geology, and surveying disciplines.
  • Clearly interpret and communicate contractual requirements to internal stakeholders and the client.
  • Work closely with the Site Finance team to ensure budget compliance and accurate monthly forecasting.
  • Oversee all onsite Drill and Blast Engineering.
  • Lead development of mid‑term mine plan volumes, integrated geological models, survey data validation, and associated financial forecasting.
  • Support the rollout and optimisation of autonomous drills and dozers.
  • Identify technical, HSE, geological, survey, and cost‑related risks throughout the mine planning process, ensuring they are documented, communicated, and proactively addressed.
  • Ensure risk management checklists are applied to all mine design and scheduling activities.
  • Recommend effective risk mitigation strategies to the Site Project Manager.

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering, Geology, or Surveying
  • Extensive experience within a mining engineering environment and previous exposure to senior leadership
  • Strong capability using mine planning and geological/surveying software such as MS Office, Vulcan, Minescape, XPAC, 3DDig, and InfoMine/OCDC
  • Sound contract management and project financial knowledge
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across a multidisciplinary mine site
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Solid understanding of the QLD Coal Mining Safety & Health Act and Regulations
