Working in a strategic Alliance with Thiess and Harmony, you will form part of a collaborative team, driven by shared objectives and values to deliver operational excellence at the Eva Copper Mine Project.

The Eva Copper Mine Project is located on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon People in North West Queensland, approximately 75 km north-west of Cloncurry and about 95 km north-east of Mount Isa. 

The Project is an iron-oxide copper-gold resource featuring multiple open pits and is poised to become the largest greenfield copper mine in Queensland.

While this role forms part of the Eva Copper Alliance, employment will be ongoing with Thiess, with recruitment and employment managed by Thiess. 

The opportunity: 

Roster: 14 Days on, 7 Days off | Location: Eva Copper, Queensland | Employment Type: Max Term Contract through to October 2027

Thiess is seeking a Cost Engineer to join our high-performing team at the Eva Copper Mine Project in the Cloncurry region of Queensland, Australia.

This is a hands-on role supporting the project controls team with cost management, reporting, and change control in a fast-paced construction environment.

Working an 14/7 your duties will include:    

  •  Maintain accurate and up-to-date cost records, ensuring reports are delivered on time and aligned with project controls processes
  • Support the preparation, monitoring, and control of project budgets, estimates, and total expenditure
  • Verify and process invoices, claims, and expenditures to ensure accurate cost capture and forecasting
  • Contribute to month-end processes including accruals, journals, and cost recovery
  • Provide detailed cost analysis and inputs for internal and external reporting
  • Assist with presentation materials and management reporting requirements
  • Analyse cost risks, variances, and trends, providing timely insights and recommendations
  • Support change management processes, including issuing Site Instructions and maintaining registers
  • Prepare supporting documentation for project change notices
  • Contribute to change management reporting with clear analysis and commentary
  • Work closely with finance, planning, contracts, and estimating teams to ensure alignment on cost impacts
  • Facilitate change review meetings and ensure systems are updated accordingly
  • Monitor and report cost-related risks across the project lifecycle

About you 

  • Formal qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 3–5 years’ experience in project cost control within mining, oil & gas, infrastructure, or civil environments
  • Previous site-based construction experience
  • Experience developing and working with project controls and cost control procedures
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems
  • Confident communicator who can build effective working relationships
  • Comfortable working to strict deadlines and reporting cycles
  • Advanced Excel skills, including VBA
  • Experience with JDE, Primavera P6, and Prism
  • Working knowledge of Australian Standard contracts
  • Exposure to Power BI for reporting and data visualisation
