The Opportunity
Thiess is seeking an experienced Production Coordinator to join our Lake Vermont operation on a 7/7 dayshift-only roster. This key leadership role supports safe, efficient and compliant open-cut coal mining operations through strong coordination, technical guidance and frontline leadership.
The Lake Vermont Project is situated outside of Dysart, in Central Queensland. This project is one of Thiess’ largest and longest running projects.
About The Role
Reporting to the Mining Superintendent, you will coordinate daily production activities, ensuring work is executed in line with the mine plan, safety systems, environmental standards and Thiess Mining Principles. You’ll work closely with Operations, Dispatch, Maintenance and Technical Services to optimise performance and support production targets.
The primary functions of this role will see you:
- Lead and promote a strong safety culture in line with SHMS, legislation and Thiess Life Saving Rules
- Coordinate production activities to ensure safe, efficient execution of the mine plan
- Monitor equipment utilisation, dozer push, haul roads and pit conditions to engineering standards
- Identify and manage risks, incidents and non‑conformances, including investigations where required
- Provide technical guidance to Supervisors and operational teams
- Support cost efficiency, quality outcomes and continuous improvement initiatives
- Assist with workforce coordination, performance management and coaching
- Maintain accurate shift reports, inspections and compliance documentation
About you
We are ideally seeking candidates with the following:
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline (Desirable but not essential)
- Demonstrated experience in open‑cut coal mining
- Strong understanding of truck, shovel/excavator and dozer operations
- Working knowledge of QLD coal mining legislation
- Experience with Vulcan, Deswik, Spry and Microsoft Office
- Strong communication skills with the ability to lead, influence and problem‑solve
