About the role

The Senior Engineer Mining is responsible for providing Thiess projects with fit for purpose and timely mine engineering services

In this role, you will:

• Prepare data for periodic reviews of all critical mine engineering inputs and reconcile actual vs planned performance.
• Participate in development of mine design and scheduling process documents and seek feedback and review through your peers.
• Assist management with the scoping of deliverables, timelines and required resources for all allocated projects/ mine plan activities
• Develop annual Life of Contract Schedules and Haulage plans as well as rolling monthly 12mth plans as agreed with operational management.
• Identify project risks from a technical, HSE and cost perspective during the mine planning phase to ensure their potential impact on the project are identified, documented and communicated.
• Ensure that risk management checklists are used for mine design and scheduling activities.
• Ensure that appropriate risk mitigation strategies are identified and make recommendation to Technical Services/ Site / Project Management.
• Ensure that data and assumption used in preparation of mine plans are documented and stored in appropriate Network Locations
• Keep abreast of advances and changes in the software tools and technology related to mine planning and scheduling through industry contacts and networks
• Seek to improve mine planning and technical processes on-sites using technology as appropriate.
• Provide ongoing feedback to management on progress against support commitments made to customers
• Key Technical specialist for Mine Engineering Software
• Actively identify opportunities for continuous improvement in operations
• Maintain awareness of the Thiess Safety Policies and Procedures.
• Ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental design checklists are completed as part of each mine plan.

About you

• Tertiary qualified in a relevant technical discipline (eg Mining, Civil or Mechanical Engineering)
• Minimum 6-10 years' experience in a broad range of Mine Engineering activities,
  primarily open pit focused.
• Strategic and innovative approach to problem solving and ability to define critical value drivers (cost and revenue) in an operation
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organisation
• Practical experience in risk management in Mine Design
• Previous experience working with cultures outside of home country will be well regarded.
• In depth knowledge of mine planning, geology, GIS, Drill & Blast, mining principals and other related mining support services
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral
• Highly effective customer facing skills and proven ability to build and maintain relationships, both internally and externally.
• Knowledge of the technologies currently implemented within Thiess.
• Understanding the key value drivers for current and new mining operations
• Knowledge of current and emerging mining technologies and concepts
• Knowledge of design and scheduling best practice tools and methodologies.
• Cost estimating and Contract Management.
