The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Pit Technician to join the Thiess AHS Crew at Pembroke Resource’s Olive Downs Complex.

Located south-east of Moranbah, the Olive Downs Complex has been operating since mid-2023. Thiess is delivering a five-year full-service mining contract, including mine planning, overburden removal, drill and blast, autonomous load and haul operations, water management, rehabilitation, and ongoing mine infrastructure works.

About The Role

Working a 7/7 Day/Night rotating roster and reporting to the AHS Supervisor, your duties will include:

  • Coordinate and support field-based autonomous and conventional mining activities to ensure safe, efficient and aligned execution of the mine plan
  • Act as the key link between field operations and the control room, providing real-time updates on pit conditions, hazards and operational changes
  • Ensure alignment between physical mining conditions, operational activities and the autonomous haulage system configuration
  • Support the safe and effective operation of AHS by working closely with AHS Controllers and Builders to maintain system integrity and performance
  • Assist in managing interactions between autonomous and conventional equipment within operational areas
  • Maintain Autonomous Operating Zone (AOZ) integrity, including exclusion zones, bunding, road conditions and access management
  • Identify and escalate risks, hazards and non-compliance, supporting incident response and investigation activities
  • Provide field-based insights to improve productivity, including haul road condition, congestion, access and dump performance
  • Support Short Interval Control (SIC) through real-time field intelligence and operational feedback
  • Collaborate and communicate with site teams and stakeholders to achieve safety, environmental and production targets

About You

  • Experience in open cut mining operations, with strong exposure to field-based activities
  • Exposure to autonomous haulage systems or fleet management systems (e.g. MineStar Command) preferred
  • Strong interest in technology, automation and the future of mining operations
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and interact with technology-based systems in an operational environment
  • Strong understanding of mining operations, pit layout and operational workflows
  • Ability to interpret mine plans and translate them into practical field execution
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work across field and control room teams
  • High level of situational awareness and ability to identify and manage risks in real time
  • Problem-solving capability and ability to work independently in dynamic field conditions
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork and continuous improvement
  • Standard 11 (Surface Coal Mining Induction) and current Coal Board Medical
  • Valid C Class Driver’s Licence
