The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Workers Compensation & Injury Management Advisor to join our Health, Safety & Sustainability team.

In this critical role, you will provide expert advice, coaching and support across Thiess operations, ensuring best-practice workers compensation and injury management outcomes. Working closely with sites, business leaders, employees, insurers and healthcare providers, you will drive early intervention, safe and sustainable return-to-work outcomes while ensuring legislative compliance and effective claims management.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same, offering exposure across multiple operations and jurisdictions, with opportunities to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that positively impact our people and business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice on workers compensation, injury management and return-to-work practices.
  • Manage workers compensation and injury claims from notification through to resolution, ensuring proactive and timely outcomes.
  • Develop and implement injury management and return-to-work plans in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Coach, train and support project leaders, safety teams and managers on injury management processes and legislative requirements.
  • Liaise with insurers, brokers, rehabilitation providers, medical practitioners and legal representatives.
  • Support the management of complex, non-work-related injuries, fitness-for-work matters, psychosocial claims and long-term absences.
  • Monitor claim performance, costs, estimates and reporting requirements, including injury management metrics and Power BI reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with Thiess systems, policies and legislative obligations.
  • Contribute to audits, assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
  • Support payroll remittances and compensation payment processes.

About You

You are a collaborative and proactive injury management professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys building strong stakeholder relationships.

You will bring:

  • Experience in workers compensation claims and injury management, either with an employer, insurer, rehabilitation provider or similar organisation.
  • Knowledge of workers compensation legislation and schemes across multiple jurisdictions, with WA experience highly regarded.
  • Experience developing and implementing injury management and return-to-work strategies.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Experience providing training, coaching and advice to leaders and operational teams.
  • Strong administrative, reporting and case management capabilities.
  • Accredited Return to Work Coordinator qualifications highly regarded.
  • Qualifications in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology or a related Allied Health discipline will be well regarded.
