The Opportunity

Are you a safety-focused and skilled tyre fitting professional with a passion for maintaining heavy mining equipment? Thiess is seeking experienced and motivated Tyre Fitters to join our high-performing team at Batam Rebuild Centre.

As a key member of the Batam Rebuild Centre team, you'll be responsible for safely inspecting, fitting, repairing, and maintaining tyres on a range of heavy mining equipment, ensuring maximum equipment availability while supporting safe and efficient site operations.

As the Tire Fitter, you will:

  • Remove and install tyres on heavy mining equipment and support equipment.
  • Conduct inspections of tyres, rims, wheels, and associated components.
  • Identify tyre damage, abnormal wear patterns, and potential tyre failures.
  • Perform minor tyre and rim maintenance and repairs in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Measure tyre tread depth and check tyre pressure.
  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship to minimize rework.
  • Accurately complete inspection reports, tyre history records, and work orders.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with the company's safety, quality, and productivity standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including tools and equipment.

 

About you

  • Minimum Vocational High School (SMK) qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive, or an equivalent field.
  • Relevant trade or technical certifications will be considered an advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Tyre Fitter, Tyre Technician, or in a similar role.
  • Experience working with heavy equipment, mining machinery, or Off-the-Road (OTR) tyres will be highly regarded.
  • Sound understanding of tyre removal and installation procedures.
  • Ability to perform tyre and rim inspections.
  • Knowledge of tyre pressure management.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical maintenance principles.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools and workshop equipment.
  • Understanding of safe work procedures for handling tyres and wheel assemblies.
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • Reliable, disciplined, and accountable.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.\
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work to production targets and scheduled work requirements.
  • The following certifications are preferred: (OTR Tyre Handling Training, Forklift Licence, Working at Heights Awareness)
