About the role

Thiess is seeking a Procurement Principal to join the team based at our Head Office in Brisbane.

Reporting to the Mining Equipment Procurement Manager, you will lead strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, category management and contract implementation across Heavy Mobile Equipment materials and services categories.

You will play a critical key role in delivering major sourcing programs, driving supplier performance, reducing costs, mitigating risk, and supporting growth across Asset Services, Pybar and our expanding operational footprint.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end strategic sourcing and tender activities for major components and electrical categories
  • Develop sourcing strategies, evaluation models, negotiation plans and award recommendations
  • Identify and deliver commercial value through supplier consolidation, market benchmarking and cost optimisation initiatives
  • Build and implement category strategies and contract management frameworks
  • Foster strong relationships with operational and technical stakeholders to understand business requirements and priorities
  • Manage supplier governance, performance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide commercial analysis and recommendations to support informed business decisions
  • Drive procurement excellence across contract compliance, risk management and governance activities

What You’ll Need to Succeed

You are a commercially astute procurement leader who thrives in complex stakeholder environments and enjoys delivering tangible business outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Extensive experience in strategic procurement, sourcing or category management
  • Proven success leading complex tenders and commercial negotiations
  • Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated experience delivering cost savings and value creation
  • Experience in contract management and supplier relationship management
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
  • Experience within mining, heavy industry, asset services or related sectors will be highly regarded
  • Knowledge of major component, equipment, repair, rebuild or aftermarket supply chains is advantageous
  • Procurement qualifications such as CIPS will be highly regarded
