The Eva Copper Mine Project is located on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon People in North West Queensland, approximately 75 km north-west of Cloncurry and about 95 km north-east of Mount Isa.
The Project is an iron-oxide copper-gold resource featuring multiple open pits and is poised to become the largest greenfield copper mine in Queensland.

While this role forms part of the Eva Copper Alliance, employment will be ongoing with Thiess, with recruitment and employment managed by Thiess.
About the role
Thiess is currently recruiting a Project Engineer - Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) for our Eva Copper Mine Project, located on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon People, 75 kilometres north of Cloncurry and 95 kilometres north-east of Mount Isa.
This role is being offered as a max-term contract of 9-12 months, providing a great opportunity to be part of an exciting new project!
We strongly encourage locals in Northwest Queensland, including members of the Kalkadoon community and other First Nations people, to apply for this role on a BIBO basis. Depending on the successful candidate's location, the role can also be offered on a FIFO roster from either Townsville or Brisbane, with on-site accommodation provided.
Reporting to the Superintendent- NPI, you will provide onsite construction engineering support ensuring the safe execution of the Project.
Key responsibilities in this role will include:
- Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure work is carried out in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and scheduled dates.
- Commercially manage subcontractors as head Contractor.
- Monthly claim assessments/review with the Senior Project Engineer.
- Perform quality management representative including witness and hold points for contractors Inspection Test Plans (ITP’s)
- Answering Contractor RFI’s
- Escalation of technical queriers (TQ’s) to the REPQ designer.
- Provide daily reports on progress, non-compliance, and work delays to the project team.
- Conduct regular job site inspections to assess performance and compliance with project standards.
- Actively monitor the work environment for potential hazards and address risks.
- Support Subcontractors with quality requirements and safety audits.
- Assist with contract management tasks.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent.
- Supervisory tickets S1,S2,S3, or ability to obtain
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in civil construction/infrastructure projects, with durations spent in a mining FIFO and NPI environment.
- Minimum 1 years’ experience as a Project Engineer
- Ability to work in North Queensland in a Fly in Fly out Roster type, 12 hr days.
- In-depth understanding of OHS legislation and regulations, including contractual, quality requirements, safety standards, and knowledge of industry construction processes and methodologies.
- A valid Australian driver’s licence
- Experience undertaking walkdowns including QA inspection (Hold Points) with Contractors.
- Concrete, Formwork, Reinforcement & Placement experience.
- Erection of Structural Steelwork experience, in particular portal frame structures.
- Basic Mechanical and Electrical engineering services knowledge.
- Possession of a White Card, or ability to obtain one.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, with intermediate to advanced competency.
- Ability to use specific software required for the role. (eg. Autocad)
