The Opportunity
Are you an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or Diesel Fitter with a passion for maintaining and repairing road train fleets? Thiess is seeking experienced and motivated Road Train Diesel Fitters to join our high-performing team at QCoal Northern Hub in Collinsville.
As a key member of the QCNH maintenance team, you'll be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing and repairing modern on-highway prime movers and road train trailer configurations, ensuring fleet availability and compliance with NHVR and site requirements.
Roster: 7/7 Day & Night Rotating Roster | Location: Collinsville, QLD | Employment Type: Permanent Full Time
As a Road Train Diesel Fitter, you will:
- Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on modern diesel engines including Cummins, CAT and Detroit.
- Maintain transmissions, driveline and differential systems, air brake systems and ABS/EBS components.
- Inspect, maintain and repair multi-combination trailers including A-Doubles, B-Doubles and Triple Road Trains.
- Diagnose and repair suspension systems, hydraulic tipping systems and electrical/CAN bus faults.
- Conduct roadworthy and compliance inspections in line with NHVR requirements.
- Attend breakdowns and perform safe and efficient field repairs.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (Certificate III).
- Minimum five years' experience in heavy vehicle maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience working on road train configurations.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capability, with OEM diagnostic software experience highly regarded.
- Sound understanding of NHVR compliance and Chain of Responsibility requirements.
- Ability to work autonomously while maintaining a strong focus on safety.
Desirable qualifications and experience:
- HR or MC Driver's Licence.
- Brake inspection accreditation.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- A genuine interest in building a long-term career with Thiess.
