About the Graduate Program

The Thiess 2027 Graduate Program provides the opportunity to learn, develop and gain exposure to one of Australia's leading mining contractors, working alongside experienced Mining Engineers and technical specialists who will support your professional development journey.

As a Thiess Graduate Mining Engineer, you will gain hands-on experience across a range of open-cut coal and mineral mining operations. You'll contribute to real projects while developing your technical capabilities in mine planning, drill and blast, scheduling, production optimisation, operational improvement, and mine development.

Throughout our two-year program, you will complete up to two 12-month rotations across Thiess operations in Queensland and New South Wales, providing valuable exposure to different commodities, mining methods, teams and site environments.

As a Thiess Graduate Mining Engineer, you will have:

About the Opportunities

As a Graduate Mining Engineer, you'll be an integral part of our technical and operational teams, gaining practical experience across the mining lifecycle while contributing to the safe, efficient and sustainable delivery of our projects.

Working alongside experienced Mining Engineers, Technical Services professionals and site leaders, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Support short and medium-term mine planning activities
  • Assist with drill and blast design and implementation
  • Analyse production performance and operational data
  • Contribute to mine design, scheduling and optimisation projects
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Gain exposure to emerging mining technologies and sustainable mining practices

This program offers a unique opportunity to build a strong technical foundation while developing the leadership and operational skills required for a successful career in mining engineering.

Opportunities are available across our Queensland and New South Wales operations, however locations are indicative only and subject to business requirements.

About You

Our ideal applicant will:

  • Be completing or have completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Engineering) or equivalent qualification prior to commencement
  • Have demonstrated a Grade Point Average of 4.5 or higher (QLD) or equivalent Weighted Average Mark (NSW)
  • Possess strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills
  • Hold a current driver's licence and be able to travel to site
  • Be eligible for full working rights in Australia upon commencement
  • Be free from a bond or commitment to any other employer
  • Be willing to relocate to site locations for the duration of the program
  • Be available to commence in our 2027 Graduate intake, with opportunities for selected candidates to commence earlier in 2026
