The Opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Geologist, you will play a key role in providing geological and technical support across the operation, ensuring coal quality, recovery and geological data integrity are maintained to support mine performance and client expectations.
As Geologist, you will work closely with Technical Services, Mining, CHPP and operational teams to deliver accurate geological interpretation and support mine planning activities. You will be responsible for monitoring coal quality, mapping geological structures, maintaining geological models and providing practical advice to optimise coal extraction.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring and controlling coal quality and recovery outcomes across mining operations.
- Mapping geological structures including faults, intrusions and oxidised coal exposures.
- Interpreting blast-hole geophysical logging data and providing accurate coal roof surfaces to Drill & Blast teams.
- Maintaining and updating short-term geological structural models.
- Tracking coal movements from pit to CHPP and supporting coal scheduling and blending activities.
- Preparing reconciliation reports, gain and loss claims and geological reporting for internal and client stakeholders.
- Providing geological advice to Mining, Planning and Production teams to support efficient extraction of coal resources.
- Assisting with geological input into mine planning, survey activities and drill and blast design.
- Supporting end-of-month reporting processes and maintaining accurate geological records.
- Promoting a strong safety culture through compliance with site safety, health and environmental standards.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Geology.
- Minimum two years' experience as a Geologist, preferably in an open-cut coal mining environment.
- Sound understanding of geological structures, data interpretation and coal mining processes.
- Exposure to mine planning and scheduling principles.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience using geological and mining software such as Vulcan, GIS applications and Microsoft Office.
- A commitment to safety and compliance with Queensland mining legislation and standards.
- Current driver's licence and ability to obtain site light vehicle authorisation.
Desirable:
- Diploma in Front Line Management.
- Understanding of surveying techniques and geotechnical processes within a mining operation.
