The Eva Copper Mine Project is located on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon People in North West Queensland, approximately 75 km north-west of Cloncurry and about 95 km north-east of Mount Isa.
The Project is an iron-oxide copper-gold resource featuring multiple open pits and is poised to become the largest greenfield copper mine in Queensland.

While this role forms part of the Eva Copper Alliance, employment will be ongoing with Thiess, with recruitment and employment managed by Thiess.

The opportunity
Are you an Drill Operator with a passion for operational excellence and innovative solutions? Thiess is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Blast Hole Drillers to join our dynamic team at the Eva Copper Mine Project in the Cloncurry region of Queensland, Australia. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable mining operations, driving technical excellence and supporting project success.
As a key member of the Eva Copper Alliance team, you’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality mine planning and mine engineering processes to support safe, efficient operations and ensure our workforce meets Thiess and industry standards.
Roster: 2:2 rotating roster | Location: Eva Copper Project | Employment Type: Permanent
As the Drill Operator, you will:
Reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor, your duties will include:
- Work in accordance with site’s procedures
- Accurately check the quality and depth of drill holes and record ground conditions that may affect blasting
- Maintain a clean and tidy Drill rig and report/address any maintenance faults
- Demonstrate a positive attitude towards regular and reliable drill metres, rig utilisation and consumables usage
- Provide neat and complete associated documentation for drill reports and pre-starts checks
- Regularly use and active participation in safety assessments
- Be willing to be trained across a variety of drill rigs in the fleet and show an adaptable attitude.
About you
As a successful applicant, you’ll be a high-achieving team-focused individual who enjoys delivering results in a dynamic environment. Your exceptional relationship-building skills coupled with your ability to engage and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders will also ensure your success in this role.
- Minimum 12 months drilling experience in the mining industry
- Experience with D65, MD6250 or equivalent rotary or top hammer drills
- Hard rock experience preferred
- SSE signed training transcript, RII for drill operation
