What does the job look like?

As the National Commercial Manager, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening commercial and operational performance across our core retail customers. You will provide insights and trusted advice to senior leaders, enhance commercial governance, uplift capability, and drive strategic commercial initiatives.

You will analyse key financial and operational drivers, lead commercial modelling and pricing, prepare executive‑level reporting, and contribute to customer strategy and negotiations. You will also support continuous improvement, commercial risk management, and a high‑performance commercial culture.

Key areas:

  • Prepare and analyse commercial reporting including financial results, risks, opportunities and performance insights for senior stakeholders.
  • Support development of presentation materials for SLT and Board‑level reviews.
  • Lead strategic commercial modelling, pricing reviews, tender assessments and investment evaluation.
  • Manage annual budget, quarterly forecast cycles and scenario planning.
  • Proactively identify revenue, margin and cost optimisation opportunities.
  • Develop commercial tools, training and capability uplift programs for operational and leadership teams.
  • Engage in commercial risk mitigation, embedding controls, processes and behaviours that strengthen commercial discipline.
  • Provide commercial expertise to support contract renewal, extension and new business opportunities.
  • Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships, both internally (SLT, commercial, operations, shared services) and externally (Coles commercial and leadership teams, vendors, auditors).
  • Maintain capacity to deliver timely, high‑quality ad hoc analysis and business support.
  • Contribute to building a high‑performance team environment and commercial culture.

You are a forward‑thinking commercial leader who thrives in complex, fast‑paced environments. You can influence and challenge confidently, drive commercial outcomes, and deliver insights that shape strategy and customer relationships.

You can demonstrate:

  • Significant senior commercial management experience in large, multi‑layered organisations (Transport, Logistics, Retail, FMCG, Manufacturing or similar).
  • CPA / CA / MBA or equivalent tertiary qualification.
  • Experience managing financials, customers, contracts and commercial outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities, including ability to identify trends, variances and performance drivers.
  • Experience leading people and uplifting capability across commercial or operational functions.
  • Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity while building effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, planning and commercial acumen.
  • Ability to influence, build trust, and deliver through others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
