Fleet Breakdown Technical Specialist (Office Based)
For senior Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanics ready to step off the tools
Average earnings circa $150,000 + super
Location: Laverton North Service Centre
Roster: Rotating fortnightly shifts
• 5:00am to 1:00pm (including Saturday half day on the morning rotations)
• 10:00am to 8:00pm
Shift loadings:
• 30% mornings
• 18% afternoons

The role
This position sits within our national breakdown support team and is designed specifically for senior mechanics.
You will be the first point of technical decision-making when trucks break down across the country. Using your mechanical judgement, telematics data and systems, you will diagnose issues, determine the level of response required, and coordinate the right repair pathway.
This is not a scripted call centre role. There are no generic answers. You are paid to think, assess risk, and make sound technical calls.
You stay close to the industry, the fleet and the technical work, without the physical wear and tear.
What you will be doing
• Diagnosing and triaging heavy vehicle breakdowns nationally using your trade knowledge
• Assessing safety risk, severity and operational impact to prioritise response
• Interpreting telematics and fault data to identify likely root causes
• Providing clear technical direction to drivers, workshops and repairers
• Coordinating repairs across Linfox service centres and approved external vendors
• Ensuring all decisions align with safety and compliance requirements
• Documenting actions and outcomes in fleet and maintenance systems
What we are looking for
This role suits a calm, experienced mechanic who can make confident technical decisions without seeing the truck in front of them.
You will bring: • Heavy Vehicle Diesel trade qualification (essential)
• Strong knowledge across engines, driveline, electrical and electronic systems
• Experience dealing with breakdowns and fault finding under pressure
• Confidence communicating with drivers and repairers
• The ability to manage multiple jobs and prioritise effectively
• Solid computer skills (Excel and Word required, SAP highly regarded)
• Exposure to heavy vehicle telematics highly regarded
• Flexibility to work the rotating roster
