About the role:
Aurizon is seeking a motivated and safety-focused Apprentice Boilermaker to join our Infrastructure Maintenance team in Port Augusta. This dual role combines hands-on track maintenance with nationally recognised boilermaker training, giving you the opportunity to build a long-term career in both fabrication and rail infrastructure.
You’ll work Monday to Friday with occasional overtime and callouts, completing a wide variety of manual, technical, and fabrication tasks that support the reliability and safety of Aurizon’s rail network. As part of your apprenticeship, you’ll also gain exposure to Rolling Stock work, broadening your practical trade experience.
There may also be opportunities in the future to support our teams across Alice Springs, Darwin, Thevenard, and Adelaide, providing unique experience across diverse operations.
Key responsibilities:
- Perform day-to-day track maintenance tasks using hand tools and heavy equipment
- Carry out fabrication and boilermaker duties under supervision as part of your apprenticeship
- Complete all written and practical assessments required for your trade qualification
- Follow WHS requirements, procedures, and technical standards
- Maintain accurate records related to asset condition and maintenance activities
- Participate in safety and team meetings, contributing to continuous improvement
- Work collaboratively within the Port Augusta team while also developing independent working skills
About You:
You’re motivated to learn, safety-driven, and ready to build a trade career while contributing to essential rail operations. You enjoy hands-on work, outdoor environments, and being part of a high-performing maintenance team.
You will bring:
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence (no restrictions) – essential
- Current White Card / Construction Card – mandatory
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to learn fabrication, track maintenance, and rail safe-working practices
- Ability to follow technical direction and work to standards
- Reliable, hardworking and comfortable with manual labour
- Basic computer proficiency
- Ability to pass a Category 1 Rail Medical and Driver History Check (mandatory)
Desirable but not essential:
- Certificate II or III in Rail Infrastructure
- Loader, skid steer, excavator or similar machine tickets
- Experience in Aluminothermic welding / offsiding
- Experience in Safe Working and Track Protection
- HR or HC Truck Licence
