About the role: Aurizon is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer with proven Chris21 experience to join our team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. This role has been created to support the team during a period of internal movement and will suit someone who is confident working in a high‑volume, large‑employer payroll environment.

You will join a collaborative and knowledgeable payroll team where accuracy, compliance, and customer service are paramount. This is a hands‑on role for someone who can hit the ground running with Chris21 from day one.

What you’ll be doing

• End‑to‑end payroll processing activities using Chris21
• Accurate and timely entry of timesheets, allowances, reimbursements, and study assistance claims
• Responding to payroll enquiries from employees and leaders via electronic ticketing systems and phone
• Providing clear advice on employee pay, leave, and entitlements
• Ensuring strict compliance with payroll governance, controls, and legislative requirements
• Maintaining accurate employee records and supporting audit requirements
• Contributing to continuous improvement across payroll processes and procedures

About you

• Demonstrated, hands‑on experience using Chris21 (mandatory)
• Previous experience working in a payroll function, preferably within a large or complex organisation
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to process high volumes accurately
• Sound understanding of payroll compliance and employee entitlements
• Confident communicator with a strong customer service focus
• Well‑organised, deadline‑driven, and able to manage competing priorities
• Self‑motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
