About the role:

Aurizon’s Coal business provides a critical service to Australia’s export coal industry. Our trains carry coal from basins in Queensland and New South Wales bound for export to global markets.

Our Coal business group is continually adapting to ensure we deliver exceptional service to our customers.

As a Supply Chain Tactical Specialist, you will play an integral part in the short-term tactical planning phase (2 week time horizon from day of operations), planning rollingstock assets and supply chain capacity to support the Central QLD Coal Network’s operations.

  • Develop plans that efficiently allocate rollingstock assets across the Central Queensland Coal Network based on short term fluctuations in customer demand
  • Utilise advanced planning systems and optimisation tools to plan train services that deliver customer demand and gain improvements in asset productivity
  • Interpret coal supply chain plans and provide expert advice to stakeholders on the impact of supply chain constraints and performance, customer demand and rollingstock capacity
  • Interrogate and analyse integrated sales and operational plans and performance data to continuously improve the planning process and outcomes
  • Provide clear direction the multiple stakeholders throughout the business to drive the best revenue outcome for the business.

About you:

This role will see you working with multiple internal stakeholders to execute the daily train schedule whilst also being strategic in your approach to planning.

You will have well developed critical thinking skills and an ability to analyse data and present logical solutions both short term in time critical situations, but also longer-term transformation work to improve plan quality.

  • High level of problem-solving skills and ability to see how solutions could potentially impact the big picture.   
  • Ability to work with and influence change at senior levels including internal and external stakeholders.
  • High level of data analytics, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to work in time constrained situations
  • An understanding of logistics or ability to rapidly learn the industry.
