24-Month Fixed Term Contract
Aurizon is seeking an experienced Category Adviser to join our Category Management – Plant & Equipment team on a 24‑month fixed‑term contract. This role will support the procurement of mobile plant and equipment critical to the operations of Aurizon’s Bulk & Containerised Freight business unit.
This is a hands‑on commercial role for a procurement professional who enjoys partnering with stakeholders, leading sourcing activities, and driving value through strong supplier and contract management.
About the role:
Reporting to the Category Lead, you will be a key contributor in delivering strategic procurement and supply chain outcomes across a complex operational environment. You will manage end‑to‑end sourcing activities, support contract and supplier management, and work closely with internal stakeholders to manage risk, performance and commercial outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and contributing to category and sourcing strategies for mobile plant and equipment
- Leading medium‑complexity sourcing activities, including negotiations, contract management, warranty and dispute resolution
- Managing supplier relationships for Tier 2–4 suppliers, with support to Tier 1 supplier management
- Partnering with stakeholders across the business to identify, mitigate and manage procurement and commercial risks
- Tracking and reporting commercial benefits and savings outcomes
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation (including the Competition & Consumer Act), governance frameworks and Aurizon policies
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives through strong commercial and business acumen
What you’ll bring
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Substantial commercial and procurement experience, ideally within a large or ASX‑listed organisation
- Strong experience negotiating contracts and managing commercial relationships with suppliers
- Proven procurement and/or supply chain expertise, including plant, equipment or asset‑intensive categories
- High level capability in SAP (purchasing) and strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Well‑developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and partner effectively
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability, with experience tracking and reporting benefits
